Skymark Airlines (BC, Tokyo Haneda) has alluded to using any of Ibaraki, Fukuoka, and Kagoshima as bases for planned international charter flights, scheduled to commence during the 2018/19 financial year.

Airline president, Masahiko Ichie, told the Japan Times in an interview that initial destinations may include destinations in South Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Guam.

“We need to operate round-trip flights between Japan and overseas destinations frequently,” he said.

The Japanese LCC had planned to acquire a fleet of eight Rolls-Royce Trent 900-powered A380-800s for use in opening up flights to the United States. However, the financial burden coupled with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) cancellation penalties, later forced the carrier to file for bankruptcy early last year.

However, with ANA - All Nippon Airways (NH, Tokyo Haneda) now a shareholder and having exited bankruptcy late last month, the Japanese LCC has once more incorporated international operations into its "Vision 2025" business plan.

At present, Skymark operates twenty-six B737-800s on flights to nine destinations across Japan from its Fukuoka, Kobe, and Tokyo Haneda hubs.
