Aviastar Mandiri (VIT, Jakarta Halim) has been forced to suspend operations in Central Kalimantan province on the Indonesian part of Borneo, after the local government there withdrew subsidies to the carrier.

Indonesia's Republika newspaper reports that officials in the province's transportation department have expressed concern at the move which will severely affect the accessibility to various remote parts of the province.

AviaStar had operated regular flights to Muara Teweh Beringin, Kuala Pembuang, Puruk Cahu, Pangkalanbun, Kuala Kurun, Buntok, and Tumbang Samba from its Palangkaraya hub. It continues to serve destinations across East Kalimantan as well as South and West Sulawesi, Bali, Java and Sumatra using three BAe 146-200s and five DHC-6-300s.
