Sucre Juana Azurduy de Padilla, the airport that has served the Bolivian constitutional capital of Sucre for forty years, has closed to all traffic as of Saturday, May 14.

As such, BoA - Boliviana de Aviación (OB, La Paz El Alto), Amaszonas (Z8, La Paz El Alto), Transporte Aéreo Militar - TAM (La Paz El Alto) and EcoJet (8J, Cochabamba) transferred their respective operations to the newly constructed Alcantari airport on Sunday, May 15.

Though Sucre Alcantari is further out of the city's environs, its increased runway length and international capabilities are expected to significantly boost Sucre's appeal as a potential domestic and regional hub.
