GX Airlines (GX, Nanning) has taken delivery of a maiden Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) twinjet in the form of A320-200 B-8655 (cn 6215). A formal unveiling ceremony was held in Malaysia this past weekend with the aircraft having since been ferried to Nanning, China.

Once all regulatory checks have been completed, the ex-AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) twinjet is expected to make its commercial debut for the Chinese carrier on Thursday, August 25.

Until now, GX Airlines has operated an all-Embraer (EMB, Sao Jose dos Campos) fleet of ten E190s all of which are leased from parent Tianjin Airlines (GS, Tianjin). It specializes in flights throughout China serving a total of thirty-three destinations although serious studies concerning possible flights to select destinations in Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and Cambodia have been conducted.
