Germania (Berlin Schönefeld) has opened a new base in Nuremberg as of Friday, October 28. The German leisure specialist will use a single, based A319-100 to connect the southern German city with the island destinations of Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife Sur and Funchal this winter season.

A second aircraft, a B737-700, will be added in summer 2017 to boost Nuremburg's regional connectivity with flights to Palma de Mallorca, Faro, Ibiza, Reykjavik Keflavik, Samos, Rhodes, Paphos, and Dalaman. Flights to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion will launch during the second half of next year.

With the addition of Nuremberg, Germania now has bases at thirteen German airports including: Berlin Schönefeld; Bremen Hans Koschnick; Dresden; Düsseldorf; Erfurt; Frankfurt International; Friedrichshafen; Hamburg Finkenwerder; Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden; Munich; Münster/Osnabrück; and Rostock. Its capacity in the region will be expanded further in summer 2017 with an additional A321-200 (sl) joining the existing fleet at Muenster/Osnabrueck and a B737-700 stationed at Erfurt-Weimar airport.

"We are consolidating our network and are creating more opportunities to interchange our aircraft," Karsten Balke, Germania’s CEO, said. "For more than three decades, Germania has been a partner of decentralized airports. We are well positioned as a quality airline within the local competitive environment which we will continue to expand and strengthen.”
