Atlantic Airways (RC, Faroe Islands Vágar) has taken delivery of its first A320-200 following the arrival of OY-RCJ (msn 7465) in Faroe Islands Vágar on Monday, December 19. The aircraft is Atlantic Airways' only one of the type on order from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and joins its existing fleet of two A319-100s.
As such, OY-RCJ will be deployed primarily on the Vagar-Copenhagen Kastrup route where Atlantic Airways says it has seen a strong surge in demand. It will also allow the Faroese operator to compete more effectively with SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup) once it enters the market in March next year, also using a combination of A319 and A320 machinery.
Given the difficult weather conditions it will encounter in the North Atlantic, the A320 features Required Navigation Performance (RNP 0.1) capability. This will enable it to precisely fly predefined routes using its sophisticated on-board navigation systems.
