Swiss (LX, Zurich) has announced it will transition its entire Geneva base operation over to the C-Series beginning this month with a single A220-100.

According to a press release, the aircraft will commence operations out the French-Swiss city on March 26 with flights to London Heathrow, Dublin International, and Athens. The carrier's maiden A220-300, due in May, will also be based out of Geneva.

Eventually, the Lufthansa Group's entire Geneva operation will be turned over to the C-Series once the airline's order for ten CS100s and twenty A220-300s is fulfilled in late 2018.

"The new twinjets supersede the seven Airbus A320s that are currently stationed there," it said.

The Bombardier Aerospace twinjets are also being used to replace the carrier's fleet of ARJ-100s whose fleet is down to just six machines. Like with the CSeries jets, the ARJs are wet-leased from Swiss Global Air Lines (Zurich) for crew contractual reasons.

Swiss plans to use the C-Series to operate London City services in future. While Bombardier has confirmed steep approach flight testing commenced this week, it has not given an indication as to when it expects certification.
