Clarksburg North Central West Virginia Airport officials have served notice on ViaAir (Orlando International) to cease operations at the airport, following disappointing service, reports The Exponent Telegram. The airport is now on the lookout for a new carrier.

"Service from Via has deteriorated dramatically," said Senator Mike Romano, following a meeting of the Benedum Airport Authority which manages the facility. The Authority says that ViaAir's flights were frequently delayed and cancelled.

"Quite frankly, there is just a failure of consideration with the contract which was entered into with them, because they breached it on numerous occasions by failing to fulfill their obligations to both the airport and the passengers of North Central West Virginia," Romano said.

Via Air operated daily flights from Clarksburg to Baltimore Thurgood Marshall, 4x weekly flights to Charlotte International and Beckley, and 1x weekly flights to St. Augustine. The Baltimore and Charlotte routes came under an Alternative Essential Air Service (EAS) contract awarded by the Department of Transportation (DOT) worth USD2.3 million.

The Airport Authority has already begun looking for a replacement carrier, but acknowledges that it may take time.

Allegiant Air (G4, Las Vegas Harry Reid), which operates 2x weekly flights to Orlando Sanford, is unaffected.
