easyJet (London Luton) will convert thirty of its ordered A320neo aircraft to the larger A321neo, the carrier announced this week. The 235-seat configured A321neos will provide 26% greater capacity over the 186-seat A320neo. easyJet also anticipates significant fuel efficiencies contributing to overall cost savings of 8 to 9%.
"These new aircraft will help us deliver our strategy of securing and growing our number one positions at Europe's leading airports, which are generally slot constrained, while reducing our cost per seat," easyJet CEO Carolyn McCall said.
The British low-cost carrier penned an agreement with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) in 2013 for 100 A320neo for delivery from 2017 to 2022. In November 2015, it added an additional thirty of the type, bringing the total to 130, plus six A320ceos.
easyJet's A320 Family order now stands at 100 A320neo, thirty A321neo, and twenty-seven A320ceo.
