AlbaStar (AP, Palma de Mallorca) has begun flights to the African archipelago of Cape Verde located almost 600 kilometres off the continent's west coast.

Using its newly inducted fleet of B737-800s, the Spanish operator has been running 2x weekly flights between Milan Bergamo, in northern Italy, and Sal Amilcar Cabral International. The ItaliaVola blog reports the service is part of a contract with TUI Group.

AlbaStar operates four B737-400s and two B737-800s on passenger flights from major Spanish and Italian airports to leisure destinations in the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, the Greek Isles, Israel, the Red Sea, and various European capitals and destinations. Aside from leisure flights, it also organizes pilgrimage charters to Lourdes in France and Medjugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
