Spanair (Barcelona El Prat) has cancelled its wet-lease agreement with subsidiary AeBal Aerolineas Baleares (DF/Palma de Mallorca). AeBal has suspended operations on September 16 as a result. Spanair will continue to operate four B717-200s while the five AeBal B717-200s will be returned to the lessors. As part of its restructuring plan, Spanair will most likely retire all remaining MD-82s and MD-83s has announced up to 1000 job cuts, about one third of its workforce. It has however just added another ex-Iberia (IB/Madrid) MD-87. It will give up its Madrid-Malabo route on September 26.
