Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) has announced massive opposition to a proposed alliance between British Airways (BA/London Heathrow) and American Airlines (AA/Dallas/Fort Worth). Its chairman Richard Branson also declared his interest in a possible bid as part of an airline consortium to take over London Gatwick airport that has been put up for sale by BAA. Virgin Atlantic is considering a sale of its 49% stake in loss-making subsidiary Virgin Nigeria (VK/Lagos).
