SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International) is studying the A350-1000 from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and the B787-10 from Boeing (BOE, Washington National) ahead of its proposed venture into the longhaul lowcost niche market.

Speaking to Bloomberg during the recently concluded Aviation Festival in London, airline chairman Ajay Singh said that studies currently focused on the economics of either aircraft.

If the Boeing offering is chosen, SpiceJet could convert some of the fifty order slots it has with the US manufacturer, he said. It is recalled that at present, SpiceJet's fleet is skewed towards the B737 Next Gen (two B737-700s, twenty-nine B737-800s, and four B737-900(ER)s) with orders for 175 additional B737 jets.

Singh declined to mention the size of any potential widebody order.

While he did not mention any prospective routes, earlier this year, he told The Times of India that cities such as Birmingham, GB or London held great appeal given the size of the UK-India travel market.
