Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) has announced it will resume longhaul flights out of Berlin Tegel from November of this year covering the gap in the market that rival Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel) will leave on the termination of longhaul services next month.

Lufthansa said in a statement a 5x weekly Berlin-New York JFK service would start from November 8 using A330-300 equipment based out of the capital gateway.

To cover longhaul services out of Düsseldorf, Lufthansa will start a 3x weekly Miami International service using A330-300 equipment effective November 8. Both the Berlin and Dusseldorf routes will then be transitioned to Lufthansa Group's longhaul budget carrier Eurowings (EW, Düsseldorf) during the Summer 2018 season.

As previously reported, Eurowings will be joining the Dusseldorf-Caribbean market frenzy later this winter season with flights to Punta Cana to start on November 8 using a B767-300 wet-leased from TUI fly (Germany) (X3, Hannover). Thereafter, flights to Puerto Plata, Varadero, and Cancún will start on December 14, 16, and 18 respectively.

As part of its push into the North Rhine-Westphalia region, Eurowings will roll out additional routes from Dusseldorf to "popular points in the USA, but also the Caribbean and the Far East" during the Summer 2018 season.
