SilkAir (SLK, Singapore Changi) has announced it will assume sister carrier and fellow Singapore Airlines unit Scoot's existing 5x weekly return service between Singapore Changi and Yangon, Myanmar, with effect from October 28, 2017.

“The transfer of Scoot’s Yangon services to SilkAir will optimise aircraft utilisation within the Singapore Airlines Group and free up Scoot’s resources for other network development plans,” Lee Lik Hsin, Scoot CEO, said.

SilkAir already operates a 10x weekly Singapore-Yangon direct service alongside a 3x weekly flight which stops over in Mandalay International. As such, the transfer of Scoot’s Yangon services will allow SilkAir to boost its overall weekly frequencies to the Myanma commercial hub to 15 non-stop services a week. Parent company Singapore Airlines also operates daily services to Yangon.
