Fly Baghdad (IF, Baghdad) has taken delivery of its first B737-700 with YI-BAN (msn 32412) having been positioned from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta to Baghdad on Thursday, October 12.

The 15.4-year-old twinjet is one of three aircraft procured by the Iraqi carrier's new ownership. Of the other two aircraft, one will deliver in November with the third due in early 2018.

Though at present it uses a single CRJ200 to service Baghdad, Sulaymaniyah, and Erbil, the B737s will allow FlyBaghdad to expand its international footprint to include Iran, Kuwait, Doha Hamad International, and Istanbul regionally. Plans to serve Amsterdam Schiphol, Stockholm Arlanda, and Frankfurt International have also been drawn up but are dependent on the airline securing access to the European market.
