Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel) A320-200 D-ABDX (msn 3995), dry-leased from SKY Leasing according to the ch-aviation fleets database, has been seized by Icelandic airport operator Isavia following its arrival from Düsseldorf on October 19 on flight AB3928.

In a press statement, Isavia said the aircraft was grounded at Reykjavik Keflavik due to unpaid airport charges. While Isavia has acknowledged that the unpaid charges were incurred prior to Air Berlin's opening of insolvency proceedings, it says that the grounding would be legal based on Icelandic law and that German law would not apply in Iceland.

Air Berlin disputed the grounding as "unlawful" and "unacceptable" in a statement issued to German magazine Stern, saying that it had repeatedly told Isavia that demands regarding unpaid airport charges for operations prior to the August 15 insolvency filing would have to be "registered on the insolvency table due to insolvency law" in Germany.

For the time being, Air Berlin has cancelled its remaining flights to Keflavik from both Berlin Tegel and Dusseldorf.
