Avianca Holdings has announced its Costa Rican unit, LACSA Costa Rica (San José Juan Santamaría), has been rebranded as Avianca Costa Rica (San José Juan Santamaría) effective Thursday, October 20.

"Through an extraordinary shareholders' meeting held on Thursday, October 19, 92.53% of the members approved the change of the corporate name of LACSA to Avianca Costa Rica SA," Sofia Valverde, Avianca's Communication Manager, said in a statement to Costa Rican business journal, Estrategia & Negocios (E&N).

LACSA currently operates A319-100s, A320-200s, A321-200s and E190s that are being shared with TACA International Airlines and Trans Américan Airlines, two other Avianca units. From San José, LACSA serves Bogotá, Los Angeles International, Lima International, México City International, Panamá City Tocumen International and San Salvador, while from San Salvador it operates to Cancún, Los Angeles, New York JFK, Quito International and Toronto Pearson. It also operates between Guatemala City and Los Angeles and from Lima International to Rio de Janeiro International and Santiago de Chile.

The move is part of an ongoing brand consolidation exercise that has swept across Avianca Holdings. LACSA is a member of the Panama-based holding firm by virtue of its ownership by TACA International Airlines (San Salvador International).

As it stands, aside from LACSA, Avianca Holdings S.A. comprises the following airlines: Aerovías del Continente Americano S.A. Avianca (Avianca), Tampa Cargo S.A.S. (TAMPA Cargo, incorporated in Colombia), and Aerolineas Galapagos S.A. (AeroGal incorporated in Ecuador), while the TACA Group comprises: TACA International Airlines S.A., (TACA International Airlines incorporated in El Salvador), Trans Américan Airlines S.A. (Trans American Airlines incorporated in Perú), Servicios Aéreos Nacionales S.A., (SANSA - Servicios Aéreos Nacionales incorporated in Costa Rica), Aerotaxis La Costeña S.A. (La Costeña incorporated in Nicaragua), Isleña de Inversiones S.A. de C.V. (Isleña Airlines incorporated in Honduras), and Aviateca S.A., (Aviateca Guatemala incorporated in Guatemala).
