Bintulu Airport, a coastal airfield on the island of Borneo in the central region of Sarawak, Malaysia, will see its first scheduled international passenger services later this quarter.

AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) said in a statement issued via social media last week that it would offer a 4x weekly A320-200 service from Bintulu to Singapore Changi with effect from December 27.

Opened in 2002, Bintulu Airport serves the town of Bintulu as well as the state of Sarawak. Its current scheduled passenger operations are restricted to domestic Malaysian flights to Kuala Lumpur International and Kuching (via AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines) and Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Mukah, and Sibu (served by MASwings for and on behalf of Malaysia Airlines).
