Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG, Dhaka) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mosaddique Ahmed has confirmed the carrier's intention to early-terminate a dry-lease contract with EgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) involving two B777-200(ER)s. S2-AHK (msn 32629) and S2-AHL (msn 32630) were secured on five-year contracts in March 2014 but have suffered numerous AOG events leading to Biman incurring BDT50 million taka (USD613,000) in monthly losses.

In an interview with United News of Bangladesh (UNB) last week, Ahmed said one of the Egyptian aircraft would be returned in March with the other to go in May. To cover the capacity deficit, Ahmed said a tender for the wet-lease of two widebody aircraft on eight-month contracts running from February to September 2018, had been well responded to.

“We’ve received a good response...eight companies from various countries responded to our tender for providing the aircraft,” he said without mentioning the names of the applicants or their countries of origin.

According to the ch-aviation aircraft database, Biman also operates four B777-300(ER)s alongside one A330-200 on wet-lease from Wamos Air (EB, Madrid Barajas).
