United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) parent firm United Continental Holdings is considering acquiring a stake in ExpressJet Airlines (Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) Bloomberg has reported citing sources familiar with the matter.

According to the report, talks with ExpressJet's owner, SkyWest Airlines, are in their early stages and an equity investment is only one of the options being looked at. Neither United nor ExpressJet chose to comment.

In addition to operating 120 aircraft (one E135 and 119 E145s) for United Airlines under the United Express banner, ExpressJet also operates for American Airlines as American Eagle and Delta Air Lines as Delta Connection (to end in 2018).

ExpressJet was spun off from Continental Airlines (Houston Intercontinental) in 2002 and then merged with SkyWest Inc. in 2010.
