Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) has placed a firm order for 100 A321neos and secured further 100 options. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in Q1 2020 and continue through 2023.

Delta will use the incoming Airbus narrow-bodies to replace its existing fleet of 109 MD-88s which have an average age of over twenty-seven years.

The new A321neos will be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engines and seat up to 197 passengers, including twenty in first class. Delta has also signed a deal with Pratt & Whitney covering maintenance of both PW1000G engines and PW1500G units, powering A220-100s.

Delta is the second major US carrier to place a large order for A321neos after American Airlines which has ordered 100 units of this type in 2013. A significant number of aircraft for Delta will be produced at the Airbus facility in Mobile, Alabama.
