Air Deccan (DKN, Nashik) has announced plans to formally commence revenue operations from Saturday, December 23, onwards.

In a statement, the start-up said it would run return services on the following routes: Nashik-Mumbai International, Mumbai-Jalgaon, and Nashik-Pune. Parent carrier Deccan Charters (Bengaluru International) was one of five operators awarded route authorities during the first round of India's Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) or alternatively Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN).

Operations are said to be onboard Beech 1900D equipment although Deccan Charters also possesses a fleet of two PC-12s and various other Beechcraft turboprops.

Going forward, Air Deccan plans to exploit other route authorities granted to it namely: Mumbai to Kolhapur and Sholapur; Kolkata to Jamshedpur, Rourkela, Durgapur, Bagdogra, Burnpur, Cooch Behar and Agartala; Shillong to Imphal, Dimapur, Aizawl, Agartala; and Delhi International to Agra, Shimla, Ludhiana, Pantnagar, Dehra Dun and Kullu. Bases will be maintained in each of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Shillong.

The first version of Air Deccan operated as a low-cost carrier between 2003 and 2008, becoming India's largest such operator at the time. It was then rebranded as Kingfisher Red (Bengaluru International) following a takeover by now defunct Kingfisher Airlines (Mumbai International) and fully merged into Kingfisher in 2012.
