Binter Canarias (NT, Gran Canaria) and Iberia (IB, Madrid Barajas) have signed an expanded code-share agreement covering flights within the Canary Islands, as well as from the archipelago to Africa, in order to counter the expansion of Air Europa (UX, Palma de Mallorca).

The new agreement covers Binter Canarias local services from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife Norte, and Valverde, as well as from Tenerife Norte to Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de La Palma, San Sebastian/Gomera, and Valverde. The airline's services from Las Palmas to Dakhla in Western Sahara, and Banjul in the Gambia will also be included in the code-share partnership.

The airlines had previously established a code-share on Iberia flights between Madrid Barajas and Las Palmas, as well as on Binter Canarias services between Las Palmas and Agadir, Laayoune, Sal Amilcar Cabral International, and Nouakchott.

The move comes in a response to the offensive of Air Europa, which has launched first inter-Canary Islands in October 2017. CanaryFly (PM, Gran Canaria) also operates local services in the archipelago.
