Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) will launch a direct Frankfurt International-Shenyang Taoxian International flight on March 27, 2018, marking the resumption of European operations out of the North-Eastern Chinese airport after a one-and-a-half year hiatus.

The service will be operated 3x weekly with A340-300 equipment. Lufthansa terminated its service to Shenyang in October 2016 and ever since then the airport has not been seeing any flights to Europe.

The airport's sole intercontinental route is currently the Sichuan Airlines (3U, Chengdu Shuangliu) service to Vancouver International, operated 1x weekly with A330-200 equipment.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Shenyang currently mainly sees domestic traffic, with the most popular routes being Shanghai Pudong (141x weekly), Zhengzhou (78x weekly), and Beijing Capital (70x weekly). It is also connected to a limited number of international destinations, among them Seoul Incheon (28x weekly), Taipei Taoyuan (12x weekly), and Tokyo Narita (10x weekly). China Southern Airlines and Shenzhen Airlines are the leading carriers by capacity with 27.7% and 13.7% market share respectively.
