Air Europa (UX, Palma de Mallorca) has taken delivery of its maiden B787-9 following the arrival of EC-MSZ (msn 62171) in Madrid Barajas from Charleston International on Saturday, February 16.

Air Europa has a total of sixteen B787-9s due to deliver direct from Boeing (BOE, Washington National) between now and 2022. A second aircraft of the type is due in March, followed by four more in 2019, five in 2020, and two in 2021. The final trio are due in the first semester of 2022.

Air Europa will use its first -9 to boost capacity on its Madrid Barajas-Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini route, currently plied with smaller B787-8s. According to ch-aviation schedule data, the first such service is currently scheduled for March 1.

The Globalia Corporacion unit currently operates eight B787-8s with a further two due for delivery. Together with the -9s, the Dreamliners will be used to completely replace Air Europa's current Airbus widebody fleet of ten A330-200s and two A330-300s.
