The Government of Uzbekistan has proclaimed a policy of Open Skies at three regional Uzbek airports in a bid to boost foreign tourism into the former Soviet republic.
According to the Trend news agency, the airports involved are Andizhan, Nukus, and Navoi in the country's southeast, western, and southwestern regions respectively. There, foreign carriers will be allowed to operate without any caps on weekly frequencies or aircraft gauge. Their current international services to focus primarily to Russia - Moscow Domodedovo in particular.
According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Tashkent International controls the majority of Uzbekistan's international traffic with 30,102 seats/week or 74%. By contrast, Andizhan sees just 570 seats/week (1.4%) and Navoi 370 seats/week (0.91%). Nukus will see service to Moscow later this summer with 150 seats/week.
