AirAsia X (D7, Kuala Lumpur International) has denied it has terminated the Kuala Lumpur International-Kathmandu route despite the reports in the Nepalese media saying that the airline has been banned from Nepal over reportedly NPR200 million (USD1.93 million) due in airport charges to the airport operator.

According to Aviation Nepal, the airline was initially ordered to stop flights as of March 3 but was then granted a three-day extension to better accommodate passengers who have already booked tickets.

However, in a statement to ch-aviation AirAsia X has denied the reports.

"AirAsia X flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kathmandu, Nepal are currently operating as usual," the airline has said.

AirAsia X operates the service to Kathmandu 5x weekly using A330-300 equipment. It is the Asian low-cost group's only scheduled route to Nepal.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, other airlines serving the Kuala Lumpur-Kathmandu route include Malindo Air, Malaysia Airlines, Nepal Airlines, and Himalaya Airlines.
