Stobart Group has unveiled Loganair (LM, Glasgow International) as the first carrier to offer scheduled passenger services to Carlisle Lake District Airport later this summer.
Effective June 4, Loganair will connect the northwest English airfield with each of Belfast City, Dublin International, and London Southend.
“Stobart Group is committed to delivering a brilliant air travel experience across the UK and Ireland," Kate Willard, head of corporate projects at Stobart Group which owns both Southend and Carlisle Lake District Airports, said in a statement. "There is huge demand from London, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to visit Carlisle, which is home to major businesses and serves as a gateway to the Lake District, two UNSCO World Heritage Sites and South Scotland.”
Carlisle Lake District Airport last saw scheduled service in 1993. As such, in anticipation of the resumption of regular flights, the airfield is in the process of rebuilding its main runway 07/25 and is also constructing a new taxiway and terminal.
