Envoy Air (MQ, Dallas/Fort Worth) plans to terminate its ground handling presence at Detroit Metropolitan airport by May 14, 2018, following the cancellation of a ground handling contract by its parent, American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth), Crain's Detroit Business has reported.

The regional specialist which operates feeder routes under the American Eagle brand established ground handling operations at the airport in 2016 after it had secured the ground handling contract from its parent. Its termination is expected to affect 114 staff members.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, the carrier currently operates 27 weekly departures out of Detroit, including 25x services to New York La Guardia operated with E145 equipment and two flights to Chicago O'Hare using E175s.

For its part, Envoy Air's parent American Airlines operates a further 243 weekly departures out of Detroit.
