LOT Polish Airlines (LO, Warsaw Chopin) is now 93% state owned after a government owned fund has acquired a 25% stake from the receiver of Swissair. The financially struggling carrier has reportedly started initial talks with Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl) about a possible privatization. While it has leased a sixth ex-Zoom Airlines B767-300ER, LOT has closed down its Centralwings (C0/Warsaw) subsidiary and replaced it with a new division branded as LOT Charters that will operate six B737-400s and one B767-300ER on charter services. LOT will launch three times weekly EMB-170 service between Krakow and Rome Fiumicino on July 10. It has given up plans to launch a new Warsaw-Dnepropetrovsk route. It has put its LO code on the new TAP Portugal (TP/Lisbon) services linking Warsaw and Lisbon.
