Air Tanzania (TC, Dar es Salaam) has announced it will suspend flights to Songea, located in southern Tanzania, with effect from March 31 citing the poor state of the airfield's runway.

In a statement, the state-owned carrier's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ladislaus Matindi, said service would resume once runway works had been completed.

Matindi said the suspension of Songea flights will also affect flights between Dar es Salaam and Mtwara while an alternative is worked out.

Air Tanzania serves Songea 3x weekly from Dar es Salaam using Dash 8-400 equipment. Of those three weekly flights, two operate via Mtwara while the other is direct.
