easyJet (London Luton) has confirmed it has submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) for what it termed, a "restructured" Alitalia (AZA, Rome Fiumicino), as part of a consortium.

Italy's Ansa news agency has since stated that the consortium's other members are US investment fund Cerberus and Delta Air Lines.

easyJet submitted an offer for parts of the bankrupt Italian carrier in October last year only for the Italian government to defer the deadline to April 10 pending the outcome of the country's March general election.

According to Ansa, Lufthansa Group has also submitted a bid as has Wizz Air. Alitalia itself has confirmed it has received three bids in total.
