EgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) Egypt's Ministry of Trade and Industry has announced that Canada has removed restrictions which had barred the haulage of bellyhold cargo on direct commercial flights between the two countries.

Canada implemented the ban shortly after the bombing of a MetroJet (Russian Federation) A321 over the Sinai Peninsula in 2015 which killed all 224 onboard.

In a statement, Minister Tarek Kabil said Ottawa's decision to uplift the ban came after it had thoroughly inspected EgyptAir's security screening facilities at Cairo International Airport at the behest of the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation.

"The decision would contribute to increasing the competitiveness of Egyptian exports to the Canadian market, particularly the agricultural crops," he said.

EgyptAir currently runs a 3x weekly direct flight between Cairo and Toronto Pearson using B777-300(ER) equipment.
