British Airways (BA, London Heathrow) has announced several new leisure oriented routes: London Gatwick-Antigua-Punta Cana: 2x weekly B777-200ER service starting on October 26 London Gatwick-Innsbruck: 5x weekly seasonal A319-100 service starting on December 5 London Gatwick-Male: 3x weekly B777-200ER service starting on October 25 London Gatwick-Montego Bay: 2x weekly B777-200ER service starting on October 29 London Gatwick-Sharm el Sheikh: 3x weekly B777-200ER service starting on October 26 London Heathrow-Las Vegas McCarran: daily B777-200ER service starting on October 25 It has given up its London City-Dublin route on March 2 and will terminate services on its London Gatwick-New York JFK route and cut its Gatwick based fleet from 32 to 24 aircraft on October 28. BA has also pushed back its planned launch date for its twice weekdaily A318-100 service between London City and New York JFK to October 2009. British Airways has sold 11 B757-200s to FedEx Express (FX/Memphis) and is planning to phase out the remaining B757-200 aircraft later this year along with the temporary grounding of eight B747-400s for the winter season. It has also made statements that it was considering possible options for Open Skies (EC/Paris Orly) including a possible closure of the subsidiary.
