SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International) launched flights to Adampur on May 1, 2018, becoming the first scheduled carrier to serve the Punjabi airport, located in northern India.

ch-aviation schedule analysis indicates SpiceJet serves Adampur 7x weekly out of Delhi International using Dash 8-400 equipment.

Authority for the Delhi-Adampur service was awarded to SpiceJet during the first round of bidding under the UDAN scheme, an Indian government's programme aimed at promoting flights to un- and underserved airports throughout the country.

In the first round of UDAN allocations, decided in March 2017, SpiceJet was awarded a total of six routes. It later secured twenty additional routes during the second round of UDAN allocated in early 2018. The service to Delhi is the only route out of Adampur allocated during either of the two UDAN rounds.

The route was initially set to open in January 2018 but was postponed due to a row between SpiceJet and the Delhi airport operator regarding terminal allocations. The airport had ordered the carrier to partially relocate its flights, including these to Adampur, to Terminal 2 in order to alleviate congestion at the domestic Terminal 1. Although the carrier objected to the order, it was eventually enforced by the courts.
