American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has signed separate deals with each of Bombardier Aerospace (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) and Embraer (EMB, São José dos Campos Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf) for CRJ and E-Jet aircraft respectively.

Concerning the former, American has placed a firm order for fifteen CRJ900s with options for fifteen more. The delivery of the first aircraft is due in the second quarter of 2019 and the new CRJ-900s will be placed with PSA Airlines (OH, Dayton James M. Cox). They will operate in a dual-class configuration with 76 seats, of which 12 will be in first class.

Concerning the latter, American has ordered fifteen E175s for placement with its Envoy Air (MQ, Dallas/Fort Worth) subsidiary. Deliveries will take place in 2019 between March and November. These aircraft will also feature a 76-seat layout with 12 in first class and 64 in economy. Inclusive of its three previous orders for the EMB-175, American’s order backlog for the type now spans 89 aircraft.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, American Airlines' capacity providers currently operate a total of 111 CRJ-900ERs and seven CRJ-900LRs under the American Eagle brand. The regional fleet of the carrier also includes a total of sixty-two CRJ200s, 102 CRJ700s, thirty-three E140s, 120 E145s, and 149 E175s, as well as ten turboprop Dash 8-300s.

Out of these, American Airlines owns twelve CRJ-200s, fifty-four CRJ-700s, fifty-four CRJ-900s, fifty-nine ERJ-140s, 118 ERJ-145s, and sixty-four EMB-175s. The carrier also owns and operates twenty E190s under its own brand.
