American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has announced it will reduce the number of partner carriers it has from the ten it had at the beginning of the year, to seven in April 2019.

In an internal circular to staff seen by ch-aviation, American Airlines said it would not be renewing capacity purchase agreements with either ExpressJet Airlines (Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) or Trans States Airlines (St. Louis Lambert International) when their respective contracts expire in April next year. This, American said, would improve the consistency of its product and simplify its regional operations.

"The changes will not affect our capacity or service levels in any of our markets, and we will work closely with all impacted partners to ensure smooth and gradual transitions from ExpressJet and Trans States to other existing American Eagle partners," it said.

Trans States currently operates seventeen E145s for American Airlines while ExpressJet operates twelve CRJ700s.

American's other capacity providers include Compass Airlines (United States of America), Envoy Air, Mesa Airlines, Piedmont Airlines, PSA Airlines, Republic Airlines, and SkyWest Airlines.
