Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) is considering opening a base at Tallinn Lennart Meri and developing the Estonian gateway into a local hub from around the region, CEO Michael O'Leary has told ERR.ee.
The Irish LCC sees large potential in Tallinn due to a good working relationship with the local authorities, booming economy, and a favourable geography.
According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Ryanair currently operates a limited network out of Tallinn with a total of 18 weekly departures to eight destinations. Despite this, Ryanair is still the largest LCC present in Estonia, as easyJet operates just five flights a week out of Tallinn and Wizz Air is absent from the country.
Currently, the largest operator at Tallinn is local carrier Nordica which operates most of its routes in close partnership and under the code of its equity partner LOT Polish Airlines. Other large airlines at the airport include airBaltic, Finnair, and SAS Scandinavian Airlines.
