Beijing's new international airport, currently under construction in the city's Daxing district, will tentatively open to commercial traffic during the final quarter of 2019.

According to Xinhua, the Beijing Municipal Commission for Housing and Urban-Rural Development expects building works to be completed by the end of June 2019. Thereafter, the facility will undergo testing for a period of three months which, if successful, will see the airport open to on October 1.

Once all works have been completed and the airport is fully operational, it will boast passenger terminal space covering 700,000 sqm, four runways, and 268 aircraft parking positions capable of handling 620,000 flights per year.

Airlines that have so far committed to establishing bases at the facility, which is designed to alleviate congestion at Beijing Capital, include China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hebei Airlines, Donghai Airlines, Capital Airlines (China), Juneyao Airlines, Okay Airways, and Spring Airlines.
