Corendon Dutch Airlines (CD, Amsterdam Schiphol) is planning to enter the transatlantic travel market, an application to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for exemption authority and a Foreign Air Carrier Permit has revealed.

According to official documents, the Dutch carrier intends to operate in the charter niche ferrying persons, property, and mail, between a point or points in the European Union (EU) and a point or points in the United States.

"The authority sought herein will result in increased travel choices, greater service options, and enhanced competition, thereby benefiting consumers in both the United States and the Member States of the European Union," it said.

Corendon said it is seeking expedited processing for its application to allow it to begin the proposed services as soon as possible.

Corendon Dutch Airlines currently operates three B737-800s on scheduled passenger flights connecting cities across the Netherlands with leisure destinations around the Mediterranean basin as well as the Red and Black Seas. Parent firm Corendon Airlines (XC, Antalya) recently took delivery of its first B737-8.
