LOT Polish Airlines (LO, Warsaw Chopin) has signed an agreement with ALAFCO for the dry-lease of six B737-8s on nine-year contracts. An airline statement said deliveries would run through to the end of 2019.

The Polish carrier is already expecting six of the type from Air Lease Corporation, deliveries of which are expected to run through until May of next year.

LOT expects to use the ALAFCO B737 MAX to boost its short- and medium-haul flights to destinations including London Heathrow, Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev, Vienna, Amsterdam Schiphol, Paris CDG, Frankfurt International, Brussels National, Düsseldorf, Barcelona El Prat, Moscow Sheremetyevo, Tbilisi, and Kyiv Boryspil.

The carrier expects to use the incoming B737 MAX to replace its outgoing B737 Classic and NextGen aircraft. At the beginning of 2020, leases with Kahala Aviation Group for three B737-400s will expire, followed by wet-lease contracts with Blue Air (Romania) (BLA, Bucharest Henri Coanda) for two B737-800s. Thereafter, in 2023, leases with AerCap for its last four B737-800s will expire leaving LOT with a fleet of twelve B737 MAX 8s.
