Air Niugini (PX, Port Moresby) will launch a 2x weekly Chuuk-Tokyo Narita service on September 1, 2018, marking the maiden intercontinental service for the Micronesian airport, ch-aviation schedules analysis has revealed.

The Papua New Guinean carrier will operate the route using B737-800 equipment. The new service was enabled by the recently signed trilateral air traffic agreement between PNG, the Federated States of Micronesia, and Japan.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Air Niugini currently serves Truk 1x weekly out of its main base at Port Moresby. As of September 1, the frequency on this route will increase to 3x weekly.

Air Niugini already operates 2x weekly to Tokyo Narita out of Port Moresby.

Truk is also a part of the United Airlines Island Hopper service and as such sees non-stop services to each of Guam International and Pohnpei as well as flights via Pohnpei to each of Majuro, Kwajalein Island, Kosrae, and Honolulu.
