Kāpiti Coast District Council is mulling offering a subsidy to Air Chathams (3C, Chatham Island) in order to reestablish the link between Paraparaumu and Auckland International, Manawatu Standard has reported.

The city is expected to offer NZD50,000 dollar (USD35,000) in marketing support, while the airport operator, privately-owned Todd Property Group, has offered a significant discount on the lease of premises.

The service connecting the city in the southern part of New Zealand's North Island with Auckland was previously operated by Air New Zealand which terminated the route in early April 2018.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Paraparaumu currently sees limited and purely regional traffic with Sounds Air (S8, Picton) operating a total of nine flights a week to Blenheim and Nelson.
