Swoop (Hamilton, ON) has announced it has been awarded its Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) by Transport Canada ahead of its June 20 commercial debut with flights between Hamilton, ON and Abbotsford, BC.

Aside from Hamilton and Abbotsford, the WestJet (WS, Calgary) low-cost unit will also serve Edmonton International, Winnipeg International, and Halifax initially before expanding across Canada and, eventually, into the international market.

Meanwhile, another prospective ultra-low-cost operator, Canada Jetlines (AU, Toronto Pearson), has announced it has now finalized a dry-lease agreement with AerCap involving a pair of A320-200s which will deliver during the first half of 2019.

Given persistent delays in the sourcing of aircraft, the start-up recently confirmed in an OTC Market filing that it would not attain an anticipated June 2018 start-up date. As such, given the aforementioned 1H19 delivery date for the two AerCap jets, Jetlines' launch is now only likely around mid-2019.
