Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos) has announced it will resume scheduled passenger flights to São José dos Campos Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf with effect from September 3 of this year onwards, thus marking the return of large-scale commercial operations to the interior São Paulo city airfield.

The Brazilian LCC said in a statement it would initially offer 10x weekly return flights to Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont using an ATR72-600.

"With the resumption of our operations, those who live in São José dos Campos will not have to travel to São Paulo Guarulhos to catch a flight," Azul's Director (Network Planning), Daniel Tkacz, said in a statement. "Our future customers will be more than happy with Azul's flights to Rio. The inauguration of this new route will further expand our network, which is already the most extensive in the country."

Aside from commercial aviation, São José dos Campos is also home to Embraer and Embraer Executive Jets.
