The airfield, which also serves the town of Bale Robe, recently completed a significant infrastructural upgrade alongside facilities in Dembi Dolo and Nekemte.

As part of its domestic infrastructural upgrade program, the Ethiopian government is also in the process of building new airfields at Mizan Amman, Yabello, Negele Borena, and Debre Markos.
