KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL, Amsterdam Schiphol) has announced it will terminate flights to Iran with effect from September of this year onwards.

In a statement, the Dutch carrier said that as a result of negative results as well as the bleak financial outlook for its Tehran Imam Khomeini service, it would end the 3x weekly service from September 23 onwards.

Earlier this week, Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) announced that although it would uphold its own Vienna-Tehran flights, it would terminate service to Esfahan Shahid Beheshti International and Shiraz from the middle of September onwards.

The decline in demand comes as various corporations prepare to cut ties with Iran in light of Washington's decision to withdraw from the P5+1 JCPOA accords and reimpose economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
