AirAsia X (D7, Kuala Lumpur International) has confirmed it will switch its Melbourne, Australia flight operations from Melbourne Tullamarine to Melbourne Avalon from December 5 onwards. According to an airline announcement, the service, which operates from Kuala Lumpur International, will continue to run 2x daily using A330-300 equipment.

"The new international terminal construction is well underway. At almost 9000sqm, it will house state of the art facilities with the latest innovations in customs equipment and processes, as well as a fantastic choice of Duty Free shopping and food and beverage options," Avalon Airport CEO Justin Giddings said. "We can’t wait to welcome AirAsia as our first international tenant as well as guests from Malaysia and around the world to our new international terminal.”

The service will be the airport's first international service. At present, Avalon is served by Jetstar Airways (JQ, Melbourne Tullamarine) from each of Adelaide International, Gold Coast Coolangatta, and Sydney Kingsford Smith.
