American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has officially notified the State of Missouri that it will relocate 150 pilot positions from its base at St. Louis Lambert International to other bases in September 2018, KMOV has reported.

The pilots currently based out of St. Louis will have a choice of either relocating to other bases or commuting, the carrier has said.

American Airlines is due to close its St. Louis base as a part of the network realignment process coinciding with the planned retirement of MD-82 and MD-83 aircraft.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, the American carrier currently operates 272 weekly departures out of St. Louis, connecting the city with each of Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare, Charlotte International, Philadelphia International, Washington National, New York La Guardia, Miami International, Los Angeles International, and Phoenix Sky Harbor. Each of the airports connected to St. Louis is also an American base. Out of these flights, services to Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth are operated predominantly with MD-82s.
